Toronto Fashion Week Day One: Backstage Beauty for Lucian Matis

The models filed into the backstage area at Lucian Matis one after another, each with bold, bleached out brows. MAC Cosmetics senior artist Melissa Gibson created the otherworldly beauty look for the show, complete with clean skin and sculpted cheekbones. “Honestly, it’s just beautiful girls,” says Gibson. “The look is a modern take on luxury. By blocking out the eyebrows, it leaves you to play with the contours and highlights of the face. It’s warm tones with a simple contour and sculpting through the eye and a nude lip. Lucian wanted the blocked out brows to be the focus.” Skin was prepped by mixing Strobe Cream in Goldlite with Face and Body Foundation and set with Studio Fix Powder. To bring out the models’ features, Gibson used PRO Contour Creams in Pure Sculpture and Copper Beach to chisel the cheekbones, while using Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam as a cheek highlight. Eyes were left fairly bare, with Gibson using warm tones through the crease of the eye and a pop of gold through the centre of the lid for added definition. A sheer nude lip finished off the sculpted look.

For hair, Saira Remtulla, senior hair stylist at Victoria Radford, created the slicked back look. “The hair is natural and slick, like the models came straight out of the water and threw a ponytail in,” says Remtulla. To get the style, Remtulla applied a small amount of water through strands along with a mousse spray for hold.

The beauty look was tied together with rose gold nails accented with Swarovski crystals.
