Toronto-based designer Ross Mayer debuted his Mayer Man collection today in association with RE\SET in the studio of Toronto Fashion Week. While Mayer may be a newbie to the tents, his collection displayed the type of polish typically seen with seasoned pros. We caught up with Mayer to get the scoop on his Fall/Winter line.
What was the inspiration behind your collection?
“I was interested in a casual sense of luxury. That’s what people are looking for today — really chic pieces they can wear in their everyday life. A combination of something sophisticated and something down-to-earth and casual.”
Tell us a bit about the materials you used.
“The fabrics are all from Europe. I was led by a rich, autumn type of palette, and used some bright colour here and there to pop it up.”
What was it like getting ready for your first Toronto Fashion Week?
“Oh my gosh, I haven’t slept in two weeks!” [laughs] “It’s such a gratifying feeling when you get to this point and can see your vision come to life. I would do this a million times.”
Why did you choose a presentation format?
“We wanted to keep it intimate, I wanted people to be able to get up close and personal with the clothing. I wanted people to be able to see all the details.”
